Norma Jean Gonzales-Gerrish
Although Norma Jean did not grow up in church, she felt God’s calling while in high school. It was amid adversity and major hardship during her high school years that Norma Jean began her relationship with Christ. Because of her own radical salvation experience, she is able to meet people where they are and can minister to them during tough times. Through the encouragement of others and the study of scripture, as a senior in high school, Norma Jean realized God was calling her to the ministry. From that point, she became very active in church and volunteered in numerous ministries as she traveled with her then active military family.
Her past ministry participation includes:
children’s ministry teacher, short term misissions missionary, puppet’s ministry teacher and puppeteer, youth ministry leader, worship ministry music and choir director, women’s ministry leader, sports ministry coach, food pantry ministry coordinator, senior’s 55+ ministry event coordinator, single’s ministry leader, small groups ministry facilitator, men’s ministry homeless veterans outreach coordinator and teacher, and pastoral care ministry lay counselor.
A little over 2 years prior to joining the Alamo Ranch team in September 2018, Norma Jean was part of the finance team at the Central Support office of Oak Hills Church, where her ministry skills were further enhanced in the area of church administration. Using all these experiences, God has uniquely gifted and prepared Norma Jean to answer her specific calling of connecting people of all ages and cultures to other people as well as connecting them to places where they feel they can belong, where they can grow, and where they can serve.
Norma Jean is married to Matt; and, together, they have an integrated family of 5 children, Genevieve, Valerie, Victoria, Clarissa and Andrew; 3 sons-in-law, Henry, John, and Vincent; 2 grandchildren, Cristina and Henry; and 1 fur baby named Sunny.
In addition to serving God and her family, Norma Jean enjoys reading, writing and researching, which are evidenced through her academic accomplishments. She currently holds a Bachelor's Degree in Human Services and also has Associate Degrees in Fine Arts-Music, Criminal Justice, Liberal Studies, and Spanish. Because of her passion for learning, she continues her studies in Seminary as she works towards her Master's and Doctoral Degrees in Pastoral Care Counseling.
